Silver Labrador Retriever Puppies For Sale A Best Breed Pick

By Jeannie Chapman

When considering adding a furry four-legged member to the family, there are various options to be measured before heading to a breeder. Thinking about your lifestyle and the dog's lifestyle, is paramount to your choice. If your family includes young children, a well-mannered, gentle canine should be at the top of your list. If your family doesn't include children now, but will in the future, choosing silver labrador retriever puppies for sale for their tenderness and loyalty now is a great idea.

Although the AKC, American Kennel Club of America, does not identify this dog color as a retriever, a shiny gray lab is a true bird dog with strong bloodlines. Their reasoning behind the non-endorsement is their certification of chocolate color, which encompasses several shades including a glossy gray. This in no way diminishes the validity of such a breed.

Even if the AKC doesn't have a separate category for this color, Retriever groups around the world hold them to a high standard. They consent to three colors: factored-silver, light and charcoal. Chocolate, yellow and black make up the factored colors, which come from a true silvery parent although the puppy could be of a different color. This does not preclude the pup from siring an offspring of shiny grays; they would simply need to breed with a pure silver-gray or another factored dog that carries the gene.

Another misnomer about this type of retriever is there must be some Weimeraner in their linage. An assumption such as this has been proven untrue by top researchers at an American college of veterinary medicine. The genetic components found in labs of silver-grays are not the same as the Weimeraner.

When you set out to adopt a new four-legged family member, price should not be a determination. Many of the more reasonably priced dogs under this category are the best bred, most well-behaved and healthiest stock you can come by. Honest and open breeders willing to show you their books on linage as well as their breeding operations are where you will find the best dogs.

Labs are not meant for indoor life exclusively. They need the outdoors to run burn energy and explore. They can't live a sedentary life and need something to occupy their time, a daily activity. If your Retriever is engaged and stimulated in a way that keeps him or her busy and entertained, he or she will find other ways to busy themselves, chewing your clothing, shoes and furniture.

Retrievers are classified in the sporting group and considered bird dogs. They were originally bred to help fishermen in Newfoundland. They would assist in catching fish that escaped from the nets as they were pulled in to the boats. Many years of cross-breeding with other Retrievers, Setters and Spaniels, today's lab is a real retriever of downed flying game and other small critters.

If you are adopting a dog, look into silver labrador retriever puppies for sale. A lab is one of the most trustworthy, gentle and devoted dogs there are today. You and your family will not only feel safe, you will have so much fun and endless love from a wonderful companion.
