What to Do After Beauty College?

Whether you've completed an apprenticeship in a small salon, or just received your diploma in your chosen profession, it's hard to decide what the next step is, and how to make the best decision for the future of your career. Read some ideas of how to improve your chances in the industry.
Seek Early
One of the best action points you can do is to start early when looking into possible channels, if you know the date that you'll be leaving your college course, it's good to get a few weeks head start before you actually leave college. This can often make the gap between finishing education and starting a new job a lot smaller.
List All Places in Your Area
If you live in a city or a town generate a list of all opportunities. For this it's good to use internet search engines or directories. Alternatively using sources like paperback directories can often bring a lot of opportunities that are not listed on the internet. If you know of a name or salon that you like or that you heard was good also note that.
The CV
Dependent on your experience and qualities the CV writing process can be a little daunting at times, but this is one of the biggest parts that people tend to procrastinate on. Once you have a fully up-to-date CV it can often give people the boost to apply to jobs, having a CV on hand can also be good for any opportunities that you come across through web searches, something that can be sent off within a couple of minutes. It's important to also bring out as much as possible about any previous experience, even if not in the same industry it's good to elaborate key points, for example any customer service, cash handling, time keeping, length of time at previous companies, and having a few good references can speak volumes about you.
Sell Yourself
One of the hardest hurdles for people seeking a first time job in the industry is having the confidence in the interview setting. As stated above, this is the perfect opportunity to recap on certain qualities identified in your CV, this also gives you the opportunity to elaborate on details and how this could apply to the job specification at the job you are going to.
The Extra Mile
It's good to be overly keen when going into a job interview, interviewers see so many time wasters or people that appear to not have any passion for the industry, or care about the role applying for. Demonstrating that you're willing to go the extra mile can really be impressive for the potential employer. Suggest you can work weekends, can carry out overtime, tell them of any industry related shows you are going to/have been to.
