Exposure to molds for a prolonged period can cause respiratory problems and there is some that give off toxic substances which in the more serious cases can lead to neurological disorders and death.

The main idea of waterproofing in the basement it to stop the water getting in. Fungus thrives in areas that are damp therefore the main job is to ensure that there is no dampness anywhere within the home. To start with the water will have to be switched off so that the leaky pipes can be dried prior to powerful sealant being applied.

Another important thing to do is to check the walls for cracks. Cracks in the wall may be allowing water to seep into the basement. Repairing these cracks is really something that a professional should deal with as it can be a delicate job.

In order to sort the walls they may use epoxy which is of construction grade or another strong water sealant. Before the cracks can be sealed the cracks will need to be cleaned out and they will need to be filled with mortar prior to being sealed. This is only a couple of the many things that will need to be done for mold removal.
