Why Can't I Lose Weight? The Master Hormone You Should Know About!
How many times have you asked yourself: why can't I lose weight?
If you are trying to lose weight, you have probably asked yourself this many, many times without getting a real answer.
Another important question would be:
Do you feel hungry all the time?
One of the problems could be related to a hormone called Leptin. Leptin is the master hormone that controls your obesity and weight loss.
This hormone was discovered back in 1994 by Jeffrey M. Friedman, a molecular geneticist that changed our point of view and understanding regarding obesity and overweight.
Before this discovery, little was know about the components of the biological system that controls weight. Dr. Friedman is unquestionably the greatest expert and the most informed man about obesity in the 21 century.
The Discovery of Leptin and its role in obesity.
When Friedman and his colleagues discovered this hormone, they published a landmark paper in the journal Nature, where they identified a gene, both present in mice and humans (ob), which they later called "Leptin", after the greek word leptos, that means thin.
Friedman and his colleagues showed that this hormone is a signal made by the body's fat cells that regulates two things:
a) The amount of food intake
b) Your energy expenditure
Leptin could very well be one of the causes why you're constantly feeling hungry, and why despite your efforts to lose weight, you're not succeeding.
The majority of the obese population have very high levels of leptin. That means that it's not just the presence of this hormone itself that's important, the main questions you have to ask yourself is:
Is my body reacting positively to this hormone? or, have my body developed "leptin resistance"?
Why is this important to answer?
Because, this could be the difference between gaining or losing weight.
In my own personal case, I understood this after 8 years of battling against overweight, and sometimes I ask myself why I didn`t discover this before...
Well, we can't take back time, but we can do something about it now, and I am glad I made that change, because my life is much more easier now.
Anyhow, back to present time, if you're having a bad time trying to lose weight, struggling against that hunger feeling, don't beat yourself up. Please consider the possibility that your body might be fighting against you, despite all your great efforts.
