Everyone is waiting eagerly to get their hands on Samsung's 2014 flagship, the Galaxy S5. However, we will likely get a glimpse of it only in mid-March or early April. Until then, we have to make do with snippets of information provided by the official's.
When Samsung announced its decision to add another device to its lineup of Android-powered smartphones, there was a lot of talk about an iris sensor. A new rumor suggests that Galaxy S5 will forgo an iris scanning security technology in favor of a fingerprint scanner. This does not make the device less powerful or less attractive. Discussed are five features that could render the Galaxy S5 the smartest phone of the future.
1. Fingerprint Scanner:
The Touch ID feature on iPhone 5S garnered a lot of attention. It is placed with the home button. HTC One Max ships with a fingerprint reading feature too on the back cover. Motorola ATRIX 4G also boasts of a similar feature. In an attempt to counter competition from these three major market players, Galaxy S5 will include a fingerprint scanner built by Validity Sensors. The fingerprint sensor will be positioned under the 5 inch display.
2. 16 Megapixel OIS Shooter:
If the rumors are to be believed, there's good news for Samsung fans who love to use their phone to capture life's beautiful memories. The Samsung Galaxy S5 will pack a 16 megapixel rear-facing camera along with a 2 megapixel front facing camera. The improved camera sensor improves low-light performance and raises color fidelity. It is also expected to include Optical Image Stabilization. Abbreviated as OIS, this feature makes up for real-time shaking or vibrating when shooting or recording. HTC, Nokia and LG already include OIS on some of their devices. Hence, Samsung definitely needs to buck up.
3. Standard and Premium version:
A recent report from a trusted insider backs up rumors about a standard and premium version of Galaxy S5. There will be two versions namely "Prime" and "Standard". "Prime" will house the company's own Exynos 5430 octa-core 32-bit processor, while the 'Standard' variant will be powered by Qualcomm's MSM8974 AC quad-core 32-bit processor. Whether a metallic chassis or a plastic casing, the doubt still awaits clarification, but let's hope for the former.
4. 1440p Resolution Screen:
The Korean electronics manufacturer has till date not disappointed its following as far as its screen quality is concerned. We're expecting a 5.25 inch screen with 2560x144 pixel resolutions. If this rumor comes true in the coming weeks, Samsung's Galaxy S5 will be among the first to ship with a 1440p display. The only question concerning the display is whether the tech giant will go for traditional AMOLED screen or an LCD display.
5. A Brand New Design:
Observe the entire Samsung Galaxy series. They all look alike with their rounded corners expect for one being slimmer or another being taller. Samsung digresses from its conventional design for a more angular form factor. The blueprints have no mention of a home button.
