By Arline Bradley

Having your driveway sealed will not only make it look good. It could also protect it against some elements. It is an investment that is worth it.

If you are planning to have your driveway sealed, do that when there is no snow or rain. Just look at some driveway sealcoating Somerset County so that you will know how it would look. If you plan to do that, read the following guidelines.

Somerset is a census designated place in New Jersey. It has a total area of about six square miles. There are a lot of places you can go to. Somerset NJ is among the most exciting places one could visit.

First thing you have to do is to look for any trouble spots. Make sure you take note of where are the cracks, stains, holes or the areas which are crumbling. Check the ends and the edges of the driveway as they are the parts which are very prone to damage. If you saw that there are stains from oil or grease, remove them with the use of a hot, soapy water and a brush. You need to make sure it gets removed. If scrubbing it is not effective, you can use a degreaser for that.

There will always be cracks whether it is big or small. You have to repair that one before applying the seal. If they will not be repaired, it will just grow wider and longer as time passes by. There are a lot of fillers which are sold in the market that you can use for it. Make sure that you have read and followed the instructions so that you will have a good result. Before you apply any filler, you should clean the cracks first. Remove any dirt, grass or stones on it.

Patch the holes as well. Brush the area so that it will be clean. Remove any dirt on it. You could then apply asphalt on that. Compact that area to be sure that everything will be filled. Repeat that process until the hole is completely filled. If it sinks, repeat the patching process. Leave that for at least twenty four hours before you seal.

After all of that, clean the drive way thoroughly. Sweep it clean and then use a hose to rinse the surface. Start from the highest part of the drive way down to the edges. Before you apply sealer, check the weather forecast. It will take about two to three days for it to be dried. You have to make sure the week has a sunny weather.

Spread the sealer evenly when you are applying it. There are some that needs long handled tools with a squeegee on the end. There are some that needs the short handled ones. Repeat this process until you have applied everything evenly. Let the first coat dry in six to twelve hours. Apply the second coat. Block the ends of the drive way and wait for about twenty four hours.

When it is done, you will notice that it has become more appealing. Your home looks better with the change. Follow those steps stated above if you plan doing it.
