A Variety Of Long Island Heating Systems

By Jerri Perry

Since time immemorial, the heating systems have been there. Probably the only thing that has changed is the mode of heating. Traditionalists used to heat their homes using fire. Due to the advancement in technology however, the said mode has been replaced by better and more efficient methods. There are quite a number of types of Long Island heating systems, and this may render you confused when in the market. It is therefore crucial that you understand the various types of systems in the market, even before going to purchase. This will help you have a clear understanding of the very type you want. Explained below are some of the heater systems.

Furnace is the most popular heater system. The furnace unit has a duct system through which air that has been heated is blown. Furnaces can be powered using various types of fuels. However, the most common ones include electricity, oil and natural gas. Another name given to this system is forced air heater. The good thing with this system is that it is energy efficient. It cost depend on the fuel rates, energy costs as well as electricity charges.

It is widely available and it can be retrofitted to clean the air in your house. The limitation with furnaces is that they require ducts which can take a lot of space on the walls. The natural gas can be dangerous In case a leakage occurs. The fan in furnaces can often be heard which may make the home uncomfortable. Moving air in this system can distribute allergens which are harmful to the health of the home occupants.

There are also boiler and radiant heater systems. They are best known for provision of comfortable heat in any given home. Boilers are stimulated by electricity, propane or natural gas. Heat circulates in the home through the radiation. This is where heat is transferred from a surface of high concentration to that of low concentration like, traditional radiators, aluminum panels, baseboard heaters, or on the walls, floor or in the ceilings of your home.

Since the boiler and radiant heater system transfer heat without the use of air ducts, it therefore can heat without circulating allergens in the house. The cost of installing a boiler can be high as compared to a furnace but the system is very energy efficient. It is also difficult to access the hidden piping when maintenance needs to be done. This system has a slow heating cycle since the surrounding materials have to warm first.

Heat pumps use the coolant to absorb heat from an exterior sources which are the air, ground, or even a water body. An exchanger then transfers the absorbed heat in to the house. Common heat pumps normally draw heat energy from the ground or ambient air. These are the most popular heaters that are currently in use.

The good thing with the heat pumps is that they are very energy efficient. They can also help in lowering water bills if fitted with a desuperheater. These systems normally are stressed if exposed to extreme temperatures. Some heat pumps like ground source can be costly to install.

These Long Island Heating systems are very beneficial during the cold months so when picking a brand or an installation contractor, it is important to know the amount of heat the system produces. One should also inquire how energy efficient the system is with regard to the extremity of the winter season. The system you buy should be able to run for a long time.
