  • Tarp
  • Hammer & Skill saw
  • Square & Tape measure
  • Nails & Plywood
  • Shingles & Tar paper
  • Ladder
  • Chalk

Fixing the Roof Cut away the tree in sections using a chainsaw. Determine the place where the parts of the tree will fall. Make certain you do no further damage to the structure as you remove the tree. Cover the hole with a synthetic material right after moving the parts of the tree. Further damage to the roof can be lessen by this.

Examine the damaged part. In your initial inspection you will be attempting to determine the size of the damaged area and if any rafters or joists were damaged. New plywood sheets will be used in covering the surface under the roofing material. Make sure that every edge of the material under the roof is marked with a chalk.

Eliminate the materials that were damaged. The entire sheet must be replaced if the whole thing is extremely damaged. Minimal repairs or minimal plywood replacement must be done if only one edge is damaged. Using this as your guide, remove all shingles and black tar paper from the area.

You need to put a sign in the sections of the plywood sheet for cutting. Determine the length of the next rafter and sign the focal point of it. Using the full width of the square board mark a straight line. Make it sure that when you cut the plywood using the chainsaw, you cut through the straight line. The rafter?s half is exposed after the cut, making it easy for you to put the new sheet of plywood.

Replace all full sections of plywood first, then measure and cut all partial pieces. Securing each section with a nail is a must for every section. After nailing the plywood, cover it with a tar paper.

New asphalt shingle must be put for the completion of the repairs. The reparation?s last stage is the installation of new roof shingles. The lowest are will be filled first with new shingles. The new shingles will need to overlap the existing shingles to form a water tight seal. Remove any old partial shingles and install full shingles in their place. Climb to your roof with a ladder. When you reach the old shingles you will need to secure the new shingles below the old ones to insure no leaks occur.

Tips & Warnings Check the attic area for possible water damage to insulation or other items. While the roof is under repair, the revamping of the wet insulation can be done simultaneously.

Make it sure that you have wear your eye and hearing gears in using your chainsaw.
