HVAC Service Call Tips Technicians Should Follow

By Judy Sullivan

There are actually a few tips that technicians should know about when it comes to a call for HVAC service in Sacramento. These are the tips that are not usually covered in school but are learned from experience. Here are a number of the tips that a technician should pay attention to in order to give quality services.

First of all, most technicians has to go to their customer's house to give their services. Since they are going to give a house call, it is necessary to validate the name of the customer and the address that one has to go to before setting out. This way, the technicians do not have to waste time and other resources for the travel.

The technicians should be professional enough to arrive on time for the house call. Arrive at the designated house address at least ten minutes beforehand. This is so that the technicians can still have the time to validate whether the customer name is the right one as well as the address with the client personally.

There are many areas in the house that one has to go to for servicing works. Sometimes, they are asked to go work at roofs or at machine rooms. Regardless of the area that a professional is going to work at, be mindful of the remote units if one is using multiple ones. Be sure to use the right one for this.

There some instances when the technicians find the condensing unit to have some problems. Although the first instinct of a professional is to repair these problems, try checking out with the owner first whether they want this repaired as soon as possible. If they do not require this, the proceed to the right unit to work on.

If the technician goes on a call that is only supposed to be for a preventive maintenance job or a scheduled maintenance job, make sure that the equipment is already running. If it is not running when the technician arrives, then have the customer turn the equipment on personally. Make sure that it is running normally before touching the said equipment.

If the technician is called to troubleshoot a unit that has failed and arrives at the scene seeing that the equipment is not running, then personally make sure that the equipment's thermostat or the main control switch is turned on. Set to a temperature or cycle setting that will surely turn the said equipment on.

There are instances when the customers want to help out with the job. They will do so in the form of an explanation regarding what happened why the equipment seems to fail. The technicians have to bear the explanation of the customer in mind since that is just polite, but do not take their every word for it. Verify the problem visually.

At times, the customer might just have overlooked something and it ends up that the problem has something to do with the power supply. To prevent wasting time on this, try to verify personally that the disconnects and breakers are all on. This allows the technicians for HVAC service in Sacramento to see if the equipment is getting the right supply of electrical power.
