What To Expect From A Level 2 Gym Instructor Course

For many bodybuilders and fitness fans, becoming a personal trainer is the next step in the progression of their fitness goals. Not only does it give them an excuse to be in the gym all day, every day, it means they can start working with others and help them reach their goals. In this article we will look at what to expect from a level 2 gym instructor course!
No Pain, No Gain
Just like a 200KG Romanian deadlift, no one said getting your level 2 gym instructor license would be easy. Completing your training will take sheer grit and determination, only the strongest should even consider it!
This course is one of the most popular fitness qualifications out there to get into the fitness industry. It will open a career doors faster than Usain Bolt, but to stand above the rest you need to be good - really good. Most of these courses are online ones, so be prepared for a few long evenings studying, then working hard in the gym to practice what you have learnt.
Spot Me, Bro!
Taking your level 2 gym instructor course is more fun with a friend. This will provide motivation and encouragement, helping you learn with each other and enhance your fitness knowledge. You can get better gains going to the gym as a pair, the same is true for learning. You will also need a partner to perform the practical assessment part of your course. So get your spotter out from curling in the squat rack and into your online learning course!
Be sure to enroll in separate courses though because it is obviously not possible to share a diploma!
How Much Studying Will I Need To Do
It doesn't take much time to study for your level 2 gym instructor course if you already have a lot of fitness knowledge already. Unfortunately there is a lot of so called 'bro science' circulating in the gym these days, so it is definitely worth reading through the course textbook prior to taking the test. Nevertheless if you are a keen fitness enthusiast you should know the basics already. Your course will most likely take about 15 hours per week to achieve a total of 60 hours of home study, which is sufficient to learn the course material. That means you can complete the home study portion of the course in just 4 weeks! Then, you will need to take part in a pair of one hour exams and a short practical assessment. If your course is online, you may need to film this and send it to your assessor.
Will You Get Work Straight Away?
Chances are that after you complete your level 2 gym instructor course, you won't get a job as a personal trainer straight away. it is actually hard work to get this job, because you are in most cases self employed. It is good to have some business acumen to rely on, as you will need to market yourself and actively recruit for clients. Ask to advertise at your local gym, create a website, a fitness blog, get a Google+ listing, and work hard to get clients. It is possible to make a decent amount of money from being a personal trainer while doing something you love, but only if you work hard at it!
