Planning A Birthday Party For A Milestone Year

By Elba Fenwick

Sometimes the idea of turning 50, 40 or even 30 is a bit overwhelming and sometimes people even feel a bit depressed about getting older. However, getting older is simply part of life and every birthday is a reason to celebrate, especially these special birthdays. So rather than mope, invite a bunch of friends over and celebrate your life. Here are a few tips that will help make your milestone birthday awesome.

It can be fun to have a special theme for a milestone party. For instance, if the birthday boy or birthday girl was born in the 1960s, have a 60s theme party. This includes having people come in costume and also playing music from that decade and perhaps even setting up a buffet of foods popular back in the day. Another theme would be an "Over the Hill" theme where people bring small gag gifts for the honored and aged person in question. You could also plan a party around a favorite interest or a special memory from childhood.

Finding decorations is as simple as heading to the local party store or going online and finding "over the hill" items or items relating to the age the person is turning. Most party supply companies have all sorts of items, including plates, tablecloths, napkins, cups and other decorative items displaying 30, 40, 50, 60 and sometimes even higher ages. Another fun decoration example would be to put up 40 pictures for someone turning 40, as well as 40 interesting facts about the birthday girl or boy. Be sure to include their 40 favorite songs and play them throughout the night.

A sit-down dinner is always an option for any party, but it can be a lot of extra work for the host and it's hard to mingle with guests if you are constantly heading back and forth from the kitchen. So consider setting up a buffet instead which can be filled with catered items or items simply made ahead of time. You can have a drinks table with ice-filled chests with beer and soda and water, as well as several bottles of wine. You could make just one signature cocktail for the event, to make it all a bit easier, such as a festive punch or the favorite mixed drink of the birthday boy.

When we think of birthdays, birthday cake seems like the obvious choice for dessert. While this is the tried and true standard, a better option might be something a bit more extraordinary such as chocolate pizza. This gourmet chocolate delight is handcrafted by Chocolate Pizza Company and not only is it delicious, it is visually appealing as well and even placed in a true pizza box to ensure a memorable presentation. Chocolate Pizza Company offers dark, milk and white chocolate varieties to please any palate.

Each pizza features a crust of melted chocolate blended with something special. The milk and dark chocolate pizzas are made from chocolate blended with toffee that is handmade at Chocolate Pizza Company. The white chocolate pizzas are slightly different, a beautiful mix of slivered almonds, dried cranberries and delicate white chocolate. For the dark and milk chocolate pizzas there are many interesting topping choices, including nuts, candies and even graham crackers and marshmallows. You also can purchase a custom birthday pizza for your guest of honor.
