The Art Of Dog Happiness

By Garrett McMahan

Dogs are the usually contented animals by nature and we think of cats more often, if we link them to those bad tempered and unhappy creatures. To make sure however, that your dog is the happiest furry creature there is, the following are some tips to do.

1. Take Fido Here, There & Everywhere

Dogs usually would prefer staying near you and even 24 hours a day or seven days a week, if given this chance. Dogs usually do not want being alone, thus bring your dog along with you, if this is possible. There can be some places where dogs are not allowed, but a reason why people leave their dog behind is because of the bad behavior usually exhibited by your dog. Thus, if you want to bring your dog along to many places, invest in dog training DVDs.

Obedience training DVDs can make it is easy for you to teach your dog a variety of skills, such as dog leash training, learning not to jump on people, learning to stop barking on command, sitting, staying and many other basic skills. Once you have completed dog training, you will have a safer animal that is well behaved enough to take almost anywhere.

2. Get Out There & Play

Dogs enjoy some playing time daily because they need a good level of exercise also. They may differ on the levels of energy because each breed and also the individual dogs have these differences. There are dogs that enjoy long walks and also enjoy playing dog agility sports like Frisbee playing, but there are also dogs that just enjoy short daily walks or some play fetching. Games such as tug games or hide and seek are games that some dogs enjoy. You can keep them from being bored by providing them play time and enough physical activities. If you have dogs with lots of energy in them, they can become tense and also destructive, if they become bored.

3. Grooming Is Essential

Grooming your dog can be a chore, but it is an important one and a well-groomed dog tends to be more comfortable. Dogs need a bath about once each month, perhaps more if they are often outside playing. Talk to your vet about the best type of shampoo for your dog. Most dogs also need to be brushed several times each week to keep their coats shiny and free from tangles and matting. Most dogs enjoy being brushed and it can be a great way for the two of you to bond. In addition, you also probably will want to keep your dog's toenails trimmed and you need to learn how to clean and care for your dog's ears.

4. Schedule Those Vet Visits

It goes without saying that your dog needs to stay up-to-date on all of his or her vaccines, but dogs also need a yearly physical. During this visit, your veterinarian will assess their overall health and probably suggest taking some blood to check a variety of factors. These blood tests are important for older dogs, especially as they can show the first signs of many potential health issues. In addition, you also want to schedule a yearly teeth cleaning for your dog and perhaps twice yearly if needed.
