Step By Step Guide In Sheet Metal Fabrication

By Enid Hinton

Metals play a vital role in a lot of business operations. Even in a typical household, we see how beneficial metals are. The demand for this product is so high that it is no longer a surprise when we see more businesses specializing in its production.

Metal stocks come in different types like aluminum, stainless steel, tin, bronze, titanium and many more. They are all good for specific usage. But all of them on their raw form cannot function without undergoing processes that will reconstruct them to form a more practical tool. Companies such as the sheet metal fabrication Orange County are in business to make these raw materials into something more useful.

They are the ones in charge of performing technical aspects like blacksmithing, welding, cutting and the like. But if you want to do a simple one on your end as a trial, you may do so. Here is a step by step guide on how to go about with this process. Be reminded that this is only good for trial. If you are planning on performing a bigger project, it is best to consult the experts.

First is to determine what material you want to create. Once you have thought about it, get a graph paper and draw it there. It does not need to be the right size yet. Just provide the right dimensions on the graph including the kind of sheet metal that you will be using. If you are not sure what type to use, get your reference from online recommendations. Once you have it, but it from hardwares.

Two, clean up your working area. If you want to lay down the sheet on a table, make sure that the place is free from any distractions like bulky objects and the like. Provide any kind of protection you can give to the table so it will not be damage once you do the cutting. Get a cardboard or a paper and draw your design on it using the appropriate dimensions this time.

Third, make a mock design of the item that you want to have. This is optional but is recommended in order to see the possible flaws in the design prior to cutting it on the sheet. Use a cardboard for instance for dimensional designs. Use masking tapes to connect the cardboard in order to get the original dimension that you set for the item.

Fourth, gear up for the real deal. Wear protective gloves to prevent yourself from getting cut. Next, lay down the pattern above the sheet. Attach it to the material using tapes and outline it on the metal using sharp transfer pencil. You need to have a clear view on the lines so it is important that you maintain a sharp pencil.

Five, get cutting shears and use it to cut the sheet. Depending on the details of your design, you may need to use more than one shear. Ask assistance if needed.

This do it yourself process can be done if you are only planning to create simple materials like a screen. However, bigger projects that involve overlapping of processes and bigger equipment will require the help of the professionals. If it is your first time to perform the process, it is recommended that you ask the assistance of someone in the family or friend just to be sure.
