The French National Flag

The French national banner elements are three equivalent groups of blue, white, and red. In 1790, after the French Revolution, the national shade of France, white, was cooperated with the shades of the French local army, blue and red. The French Flag was formally adopted on February 15, 1794. As with several other countries, the original flag of France was that of a saintâ€"in this case, the oriflamme, the flag of St. Denis.

The French National banner goes back to the times of the French Revolution.The original banner had three to five pointed ends, more like our idea of a pennant than a flag, and was likely made of red silk without any decoration. Individuals from the Parisian local army that raged the Bastille on July 14, 1789, had worn blue and red ribbons on their caps. To give the blue and red a national claim, Marquis de La Fayette, the French Leader recommended including a white knot to the uniform of the National Guard.

There are several theories regarding the symbolism and position of the colours of the French Flag. The colours are believed to have been inspired by a rosette that appeared during the revolution. By 1794, a determination was gone to get the flag in it current structure - blue, white, and red. The July Revolution of 1830 brought yet another turn. Louis-Philippe managed the use of the flag and this time the French identified with the pennant which transformed into a national ensign.
