You see them everywhere, weight loss shakes that are supposed to help you burn calories and drop pounds. There are ready made shakes, powdered mixes, liquid concentrates. But why would you want to drink something that has sat on a store shelf for who knows how long? Why not make your own weight loss shake?



Sure, there is the convenience of premade weight loss products, but have you thought about what is in them? If they are going to sit on the shelf in a store, you know they have to be full of preservatives and other chemicals that aren't good for your body. If you are serious about weight loss and improving your health, then you need to take charge of your diet and that includes your weight loss shakes!
So how do you make a weight loss shake? It is actually quite simple. You can find recipes that give exact measurements, but the best shake is one that you make specifically for you. Load it up with lots of fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. Not only will you be making a shake that taste better than anything you can buy at the store, but it will give you multiple servings of fruits and vegetables in one healthy drink!
When you first start out making your shakes, use more fruit that vegetables. As you develop a taste for the mixture, add more veggies until your shake is about half fruit and half vegetables. Choose dark colored produce for the healthiest shake. These fruits and veggies are rich in antioxidants which are important to keep your body healthy!
Put all the produce in your blender or smoothie maker and blend away. You may need to add the ingredients a little at a time so it will blend well. If you want it to be more shake like, add some ice to give it a frozen treat feel. You may need to add a little water to make it more liquid if necessary. You can also add milk, but use skim so the shake is a healthy and low fat as possible.
For added health and weight loss benefits, add a scoop of protein powder and some milled flax seed to the mix. These things are both great for weight loss. The protein powder adds a necessary nutrient that a lot of people don't get enough of especially when they are dieting. Protein helps to build and repair muscle and muscle burns calories. Flax seed is the wonder seed. It is packed with healthful benefits such as heart health and adding more fiber to your diet. In addition to adding flax to your weight loss shake, sprinkle it on yogurt and cereal, even mix it in with tuna and chicken salad!
There is no reason to buy weight loss shakes at the store when you can make delicious and healthy shakes at home. So load up on healthy produce and make a delicious shake every day. You will love the taste and your body will love the extra nutritional boost!
