Why Children Confidence Is Important

By Nancy Gardner

There is no doubt, more and more kids struggle with a low self esteem. Children confidence needs attention and this is possible with the help of both parents and teachers. One needs to focus on their strengths and find out what they are good at. It is also important to encourage children and give them praise.

Psychologists will tell you that continuous praise will help children believe in themselves and this provides them with a good attitude about life. Making the effort when kids are still young is important because this is when the mind is developing. They will then find that they are able to cope a lot better with socially as well as in a classroom setting.

In saying this, there are certain things that a teacher or parent has no control over. These things will be referred to as abuse as well as any emotional trauma. This can happen with bullying. Often the parent is not aware of this. The child will suffer with esteem problems and they may develop a lot of anxiety in their lives. This will also be portrayed in the person who develops into an adult.

On the other hand, there are children that are just born with a lack of confidence. Often this is in the genes and parents are not the ones to help with this. Often they can do more harm than good. One may be better sending the child to a child psychologist in London, UK where someone will specialize in this department.

One should also introduce new tasks so that the child can find out that there are a lot of things that they are able to do. A lot of parents will just focus on one thing, such as art, for example. However, it is important to be engaged in outdoor activities as well as cooking and socializing. This will build up more skills.

Parents should also encourage children to take part in a host of activities which will help them in a variety of ways. This could be cooking, sport, reading or art. It is no use just focusing on one thing because something may happen where they simply stop with this. Volunteering and helping others is also a great way to get out there and building confidence.

A child will learn by making mistakes and this is part of life as any adult will know about. They need to find out about this early on because this is also going to build some confidence. They will learn that there is hope the second time around. They will also learn that you are not a failure if you do make a mistake. Parents need to go about this in the right way and not make a big thing about it.

A child may be disappointed from time to time. They may start to compare themselves with someone else. It is necessary to talk to him or her about this. Encourage them because sometimes they may learn at a different pace, especially if they have a disorder, such as attention deficit disorder. It can be frustrating for them. One could encourage the child to continue doing what they are good at and with what they have a passion for.
