First Aid Suvival Kit Decisions

By Tammie Caldwell

Safety is always the most critical condition of everyday life, but even the best-laid plans have mishaps, and someone gets hurt. First Aid suvival kit decisions are pretty straight forward but making sure it covers the largest possibilities of injury are something to give serious thought. Let's look at a few examples of when on site conditions warrant the need for immediate attention.

Home is a place to relax and enjoy time with family and away from work. However, statistics indicates it is also where the greatest number of accidents occur. People clean out the gutters and fall off the ladders, decide to trim trees and end up breaking an arm as they land soundly on the ground. Even the kitchen is not safe from getting burned while cooking on the stove or roasting a ham in the oven.

One of the hottest trends is surviving without modern conveniences, but even with the greatest care and attention to safety there is still a chance the outing results in some injury. In the great outdoors, fresh, clean water for cleansing wounds is often scarce, and other liquids intended for this purpose add weight to backpack. Handy wipes are less bulky and offer a sterile means of cleaning wounds.

Military units have a Medic recruit, but many of the injuries occur when they are on the practice battlefield. Military emergency kits have additional items to help hold vital organs in place and set bones with long strands of gauze. Typical and topical antiseptics add to the mix along with band-aids, ointments and cleansers for sterilization of the wound.

Typical emergencies while traveling to and from work or school are not always life threatening but still need a supply of items to help tend the wounds. A travel kit even includes roadside flares to warn other vehicles there is a downed situation. It is also a good idea to keep a sleeping bad, or another type of blanket, in the vehicle to help prevent shock.

The corporate world typically has break rooms and lounges where people go take their regular breaks. This is also where people with injuries are taken to help keep them settled until an ambulance arrives. Even stroke and heart attack victims need some medical attention before the professionals arrive, and sometimes the only ingredient needs is some smelling salts.

It is not unusual to prepare for emergencies at wedding, or funerals. Mishaps occur anywhere people gather, and a bridal party or memorial service offers a situation for sprained ankles and skinned knees. Choose from the emergency kits to prepare for all occasions and make sure there is a list of instructions, and people to notify in case of emergency for each of the guests.

Band-aids, gauze, disinfectants and ointments are only a few of the items required in emergency situations, also included sufficient binding for splits and pressure bandages. When choosing the best ideas for any situation where time is crucial to the outcome of an accident, start by selecting a kit that covers the most situations with the least amount of bulk.
