Facts About Old English Bulldogs That Will Catch Your Interest

Dogs come in different shapes, sizes, colors, coats and characteristics. Perhaps the one thing that helps in determining their type is the breed where they belong. One example is the Bulldog that has many kinds. The original breed of this canine was lost a long time ago. What remains are some of the most amazing facts about them.

It is not extinct because they are being hunted. It is because the genes are no longer as defined as before. Old English Bulldogs are known to have the muscular appearance. It is common for these kind to have a broad body structure. Unlike the modern ones that are shorter, this kind of dog stands 15 inches tall.

Before, these canines were generally trained to be bull baiters. Their job is to hold down an angry bull in place while it is being castrated. Bull baiting was a famous blood sport in England several decades ago. And most of the dogs were forced to get inside the arena and face a deadly bull for pure entertainment.

When the game was totally banned because of its brutal nature, it was decided that the canines should be crossed with another breed to neutralize their fierce animal instinct and make them great pets. Later on, they were known to be shorter and became the companion of English royalties or some animals. Most bulldogs are also delivered through CS because their heads are too big.

This canine who originally came from England is now considered the 5th most famous canine in the US. Most American presidents owned canines but only one in the history of the country very own and English bulldog. He was President Warren Harding, the 29th Commander in Chief of the US.

The dog that Sir Winston Churchill had was a Pug and not a Bulldog. Even though their country of origin are the same and the breed has always been associated with his name, he did not have this dog as a pet. Although there were a lot of people who thought it, it is not true.

Bulldogs in every aspect, no matter how many people think that they are cute, they still have the fierce quality in them. Which is why they are the usual favorites of schools as their mascot of choice. Mack Trucks, the famous truck manufacturing company also has this breed as their main face. After the year 1922, they have incorporated in their truck hood designs the features of this canine.

Although this lineage of canines were for another sport, they seem to excel in yet another today. The bull baiting game requires an athletic and tall build for a dog but since they do not have that anymore. They have engaged themselves in skateboarding. And they seem to be actually pretty good at it. There are already many canine YouTube sensations of this breed.

Although there has been a huge change on their abilities and their appearance, they are still the same great breed. There is no exact story of how they originated and how they became fierce bull warriors. But the good thing is that they still exist today in the image of their kind and are great pets.
